Week 5

Stratton Youth U/13s
Sunny weather was the only thing this game had in common with the corresponding fixture this time last month. In contrast to the home game, the U/13s came sprinting out of the blocks and put the home team on the back foot from the first whistle. Early pressure was rewarded with a 3-1 lead at half time thanks to goals from Jonny Reynolds and one from Ben Johnson. A quick and mobile Abbey Meads forward line was handled well by a steadfast Stratton defence, with Jonas Smith making more than one timely tackle to break up promising attacks. The second half continued in the same way with the midfield competing for every ball and threading those they won through to a willing Jonny Reynolds who picked up where he left off last week, scoring four goals for a player-of-the-match performance. In between, Brad Risby jinxed his way through the defence and bent a sweet strike into the far top corner for the goal of the game to add to the total of six goals. This was a largely faultless performance from front to back, with all 12 boys playing their part in an entertaining and well-deserved win.

Stratton Youth U/12s
U/12s visited Brockworth Albion in the County Cup. A hesitant start from Stratton saw the home side race to a 3-0 lead with some great long range efforts. Stratton fought back strongly and the captain for the day and player of the match Sami Zamiri scored two great goals to make the score 3-2. Stratton came out with renewed vigour in the second half and a dominant display from the defence and tireless running from Jack Miller saw Stratton’s Sam King score a hat trick (unfortunately he doesn’t get to keep the match ball) and a brace from Jaden Mullis ensured Stratton come out 7-3 victors!

Stratton Youth U/11s
U/11s were at home against Chippenham with the game played in almost perfect conditions. The U/11s have been asked to communicate more, work harder off the ball and be sharper in their passing and this was a massively improved display. The team pressed throughout the first half, giving very little time for the opposition to settle on the ball. After a thunderbolt opening goal from Idris Thomas-Jones from the edge of the area the U/11s cut open the defence with a fantastic move involving Louis Kingsbury releasing Dylan Morse who played an inch perfect perfect cross into Ez Allen to smash home. The team deserved their two goal cushion at half time and were outstanding at times.

They moved four goals ahead with two more powerful shots from Idris which gave the keeper no chance. This seemed to have a negative effect on the team as they were all suddenly very eager to score and the team completely lost their shape for the last 15 minutes. Chippenham pulled two goals back and, while the home side had more chances, they found themselves only one goal to the good with virtually the last kick of the game as the ball unfortunately bounced over Luke Dawson in goal. The first 45 minutes of the game were very encouraging but the passing could still be better. Arthur Quli and Harley Bennett were again fantastic and Shai Robinson worked very hard up front but Archie Walker took home player of the day due to his tackling and distribution.

Stratton Youth U/10s
The U/10s played their latest league match of the season away to Malborough. Stratton got off to a fast start dominating territory and possession, and creating a number of opportunities through some great wing play and driving runs from their mid-fielders. Despite valiant defence from the home side, Stratton were soon on the scoreboard with fine goals from Woody Whitehead and Tom Pritchett. As the game wore on, both teams created numerous chances, which were thwarted by first class goal keeping at both ends. Stratton once again took control of the game in the middle of the second half, with further goals before the home side scored a well deserved consolation goal. Zac Walsh had a stand out game in defence, but Woody Whitehead took the man of the match award for a classy hat trick.
Stratton Youth U/10s Blues
With a full squad of 12 making selection difficult on a beautiful day up at Stratton, things were looking bright from the off.
After a tight first 10 minutes the Blues took the lead through a great finish from Toby Briggs, another breakaway goal from Toby in the second quarter extended the lead, half-time two goals to the good. However Lydiard came back strongly after half-time, really finding their rhythm and causing a lot of problems at the back. Despite some great saves and heroic defending, Lydiard pressed hard and made their possession count, another tight game and an excellent performance from the Blues, and player of the match was Toby Briggs.

Stratton Youth U/9s
Playing their 1st home game of the season this was a cracking game versus Bishops Canning, Josh McGlone & Nathaniel Paddock were on the score sheet, whilst George Liddle-Peters did well in goal.

Stratton Youth U/8s
The U/8s played their first home game of the season against Chippenham Bulls. The game started with a quick goal from Chippenham. But Stratton hit back with Ollie Saunders running onto a loose pass from Chippenham defence and scoring. Then Stratton took the lead with Ollie Saunders dispossessing the Chippenham player and running through to score his 2nd. Chippenham then equalised and then took the lead. From a corner, Ethan Parry crossed in the ball and Chippenham put the ball in the back of their own net to level the scores. The match then was dominated by the defence with Jamie Portlock in goal keeping Chippenham from scoring and Harry Johnston, Lucas Garvey and Captain Henry Strange stopping any Chippenham attacks. However Chippenham then took the lead once more before Sion Ellis-Jones passed to Ollie Saunders who then scored to complete his hat-trick. Daniel Price and Ethan Parry continued to attack for Stratton but it was Chippenham who scored the deciding goal 5 mins before the end. Stratton matched Chippenham all the way. Ollie Saunders received player of the week for his efforts on the pitch and playing in defence when a player was injured.

Stratton Youth U/7’s
The U/7s were away to Cricklade Youth Colts with the fixture being changed to an afternoon kick off, Stratton were unable to find their recent form. However the second quarter was a lot closer with lots of energy and Stratton were rewarded with two goals for their efforts. The third quarter saw some resilient defending from Stratton and with lots of breaks from defence they were unlucky not to score. The fourth quarter was more evenly matched with both teams pressing forward in which led to a great team goal being scored due to the goal keeper’s quick thinking, he kicked the ball out to the winger who ran down the line to provide an amazing cross for the forward to finish off. Although the result didn’t go our way this week, the teams efforts and the passing between players was excellent. Player of the day went to Elliot Fountain.
