Stratton Youth U/16s ended their season with a 5-0 home defeat to Malmesbury
with an ex Stratton Youth player referee Sam Lomas in control. The visitors were able to snuff out the home attacks while taking their own chances through two from both Ewan McClaren and Ethan Muir and one from Jamie Thompson.
After a long break due to no fixtures and bad weather Stratton Youth U/13s played away to Lydiard In what was a tight game on a difficult pitch a goal from Felix Beckett midway through the second half clinched Stratton the win. In a first half that saw very few chances for Stratton it was their Keeper, Beanie, who was to thank for still being in the game. A magnificent triple save from the keeper ensured Stratton went in to half time still level. Stratton started the second half better and created a number of good chances, Felix Beckett putting just wide from close range, Zac Zamiri saw a strike go just wide. The break came when good work from Jasper Cleaver down the left saw him eventually play the ball to Zac Zamiri who flicked onto Beckett to finish well at the back post. Stratton kept the hosts to minimal chances after that and continued to create chances of their own, an effort from Charlie Miller hit the post and a late effort from Freddie Grace went just wide of the goal.
Stratton Youth U/12s were away to Abbey Mead, Two equally matched teams played in glorious sunshine at Lydiard Park on Sunday. Good play between the Stratton mid fielders and forwards saw the strikers go close in the early stages, however some robust defending and good saves kept the score even until midway through the first half. Abbey Mead were the first to score with a scrambled goal through a mass of players. This brought out a reaction in the Stratton players who continued to press for a goal of there own with almost continuous attacks on the Abbey Mead defence.
Excellent combination play on the right hand wing between Ghaith Lahmar and Jonas Smith play towards the end of the half provided further chances. At last the hard work paid off as the ball was played into the Abbey Mead penalty area Jonas Smith ghosted in to shoot past several players and the keeper to get a well deserved equaliser. Second half continued as the first finished with both teams creating a number of chances but the Stratton defence held firm after a series of corners were delivered into their area. Stratton tried numerous times to hit Abbey Mead on the break but again we’re thwarted by some good defending. With the game looking like it was going to end in a 1-1 draw one of the Abbey Mead strikers hit a half volley from 25 yards that looped up and dipped just under the bar to beat the Stratton keeper. A great strike but overall a little harsh on the Stratton boys who deserved at least a draw from the game and will rue the numerous missed chances throughout the match.
