Match Reports - Week 3

Stratton Youth FC
Stratton Youth U/17s
A day to forget for Stratton. Bassett quickly getting into their stride, slick passing & movement resulting in constant pressure & a procession of early goals. Half time couldn’t come quick enough for Stratton. Half ending 0-10. The second half continued in similar vein, goals coming regularly for Bassett, who were hungrier & just better on the day. Midway through the second, Bassett were reduced to 10 men after a coming together. The game just fizzling out afterwards. A bad day for Stratton who sadly weren’t at the races. Final result 0-16.

Stratton Youth U/14s
The U/14s were drawn in the League cup against Division One side FC Chippenham. Stratton were missing Meredith, Miller and Scott to injury. The game started in very wet conditions, both sides pressing hard in a fast paced opening. Stratton held there shape well as Chippenham started passing and looking to attack on the break. Opening goal came for Chippenham when their striker broke free and calmly finished. The second goal came when a challenge on keeper Meeke fell nicely for the striker to slot home. 2 nil down at half time Stratton still held there own and were in the game. Joe Lovell at the back was kept on his toes by 2 very lively strikers but he stood strong making exceptional interceptions. Zac Zamiri worked tirelessly up front and was unlucky not to get a strike on goal when Chippenham defender made a last ditch tackle. Chippenham bossed the game from midfield and as Stratton tired 2 became 4 very quickly. FC Chippenham played some very impressive pass and move football that saw them worthy 4 nil winners. Stratton never gave up and non stop effort will see them progress in future games.

Stratton Youth U/13s
The U/13s travelled to Staverton in the cup and were heading for defeat when the game was abandoned following an injury.

Stratton Youth U12s
U/12s played hosts to Draycott FC in the NWYFL cup in a very entertaining match. Stratton were quick out of the blocks and dominated the first half. The movement and passing from Stratton was a joy to watch with Player of the Match Jack Miller opening the scoring after another free flowing move. Stratton continued to press and after good work down the wing from Jaden Mullis an own goal gave Stratton a deserved 2-0 lead. The second half saw a spirited performance from the visitors but solid defending with Luke Baker, Sami Zamiri and Ben Szczerkowski with Sam King dominating the midfield enabled Stratton to come out comfortable 2-1 winners

Stratton Youth U/11s
The U/11s played their first home game of the season. They started very slowly and it took 15 mins for them to get in the game. The team were indebted to Luke Dawson in goal who made a string of fine saves. Despite this, two defensive errors gave the opposition the chance to get two goals ahead. This seemed to rouse the U/11s and they pulled a goal back after a fine move led to Dylan Morse making no mistake from the edge of the six yard box. They went into the second half a goal behind and they looked far more positive from the offset. Unfortunately the team got caught with long balls over the top which skidded through for the opposition strikers to take the game away from the. There were several positives including Luke’s performance in goal, Arthur Quli’s strong running and combative tackling from Harley Bennett and Shai Robinson. However, the team must work more as a unit and support their team mates when they don’t have the ball plus improve their passing. They have a number of hugely positive attributes and everyone is aware what to work on which will make a huge difference to being competitive in a league with a number of top class teams.

The U11 Blues
The Blue team had a game of two proverbial halves. They found themselves 5.1 down at half time before rallying to ultimately draw the match. Harry Phillips weighed in with a net busting 5 goals while Leighton Emson got his second goal in successive games. It looked as though Ben Seakins had won the game with 3 minutes to go when he struck home from a corner. Unfortunately for the Blues there was one more goal and it went to the opposition meaning the match was tied. A thoroughly entertaining and engaging game that the team enjoyed and helped distract the spectators from fact they were drenched. Well done to all involved.
Stratton Youth U10s

U/10s played their second league match of the season away to Hungerford in the pouring rain. The 1st half was very tight with Hungerford equalising after Archie Miller’s great individual goal. Stratton’s second half pressing game allowed them more time on the ball with goals coming from Tom Pritchett, Archie Miller, Woody Whitehead and Josh Price. The man of the match was giving to Tom Pritchett for his outstanding performance with three assists.

Stratton U/10s Blue With a weather forecast predicting thundery showers, the game kicked off in a rare dry spell. Almost immediately the Blues fell behind as they failed to clear the ball. But they showed yet more of the fighting spirit that was so notable in last week’s match and were soon level. For the rest of the first half they dominated possession and defended resolutely. At half time they held a slender, but deserved, one goal lead, helped by an own goal and a confidently dispatched penalty. The opposition showed plenty of quality in the second half, regularly breaking out of defence quickly. But the Blues had been working hard on their defence in training and did well under extreme pressure, even managing to add a few more cracking goals. It was a tight game, with a nervy final quarter as the rain fell, leading to some exciting goalmouth scrambles at both ends. Bailey Robertson was awarded Man of the Match for his diligent defending. The Blues’ goal scorers were Finn Pearcey, Luke Richmond and Xander Dean.

Stratton Youth U/8s
A rainy morning saw Stratton Youth Under 8s play away at Cricklade. The game started brightly for Stratton who took the lead from an error by Cricklade's defence, allowing Ollie Saunders to score. Cricklade hit back a few moments later to level the score. Stratton took the lead once more with Daniel Price setting up Ethan Parry to score. The same combination allowed Ethan Parry to get his 2nd. Ethan Parry then crossed the ball, which the Cricklade defence unfortunately put the ball in there own goal. Cricklade hit back and some excellent defending by Moses Allan and Henry Hurst and goalkeeping by Jamie Portlock ensured Cricklade couldn’t find a way through. Stratton continued to press and further goals came as Sion Ellis-Jones set up Ollie Saunders, however Cricklade pulled one goal back. From the kick-off Ollie Saunders passed to Sion Ellis-Jones to score. Sion Ellis-Jones then returned the favour, passing to Ollie Saunders to score and complete his hat-trick. Daniel Price then finished the scoring with a penalty late on after a hand ball. It was a very impressive win for Stratton Youth Under 8s, the passing at times were well beyond their years. Daniel Price received player of the week for his teamwork and constantly trying to win the ball back for his team.

Stratton Youth U/7s
U/7’s travelled away to Purton Youth and played in very wet conditions. However this didn’t dampen the kids spirits and were firing on all cylinders right from the kick off going 4 nil up.
Both teams were more evenly matched in the following three quarters which made a great game of football to watch. All ten players thoroughly enjoyed themselves with every one of them getting stuck in. Player of the day went to Oscar Branigan.
