All our teams were back in action, including several new ones competing for the first time!

Stratton Youth U/17s 2-4 Wanborough U/17s
It was a League Cup game first up at Baunton Lane for Stratton v Wanborough Youth and the sun was beating down as the game kicked off. It was Wanborough who started the brightest, imposing themselves, capitalising on early dominance in the final third grabbing a quick fire brace. Try as they might Stratton couldn’t get a hold of the game conceding a further two more goals but with the half ending, hope, Aaron Mckillop persisting slotting home. 1-4 half time. A second half of pride for Stratton. More competitive, an eagerness to get to the ball first & some resolute defending rewarding Stratton’s efforts scoring again. Charlie Hardiman catching Wanborough’s goalie out from range. The match ending 2-4. Stratton going out of the cup but with reasons to be optimistic based on the second half’s team performance. Player of the match was Matthew Price.

Wootton Bassett U/14s 4-0 Stratton Youth U/14s Stratton held their own in a very competitive first half. They fell behind after a mix up in defence so were 1.0 down at half time but had all to play for. In hot conditions and a very uneven surface Stratton were not able to produce the fluid passing football that earned them a hard fought draw last week. Bassett pressure told and one became 2 early in the second half. Change of personnel and shape wasn’t affective as hoped. Stratton got caught on the break several times and were soon 4 nil down as they pushed to get back in the game. George Quli worked tirelessly at the back and produced a fine display and Zac upfront never gave up in the hunt for a goal. The second half saw a much improved game from Stratton Youth with player of the match Sam King scoring a great goal for the home side, however a strong Wroughton side ended up with a deserved victory.

Stratton Youth U/13s 11-0 FC Calne
The u13s showed great bounce-backability to record an impressive home win following the disappointment of the previous week. Not only did they rack up double figures, scoring 11 goals, but matched that at the other end with an equally impressive clean sheet. From the start, it was clear there would not be a repeat of the previous week as promising crosses from Harvey Williams and determined runs from Brad Risby amongst others put the Calne defense under early pressure. Once the first goal from Brad Risby hit the back of the net after about 5 minutes, the goals came steadily, resulting in a four-goal lead at half time. Good passing from Calne wasn't rewarded with goal chances and the second half saw them relying on occasional breakaways to put pressure on the Stratton defence which remained calm, solid and well organized. The spread of goals throughout the team with four from Brad Risby, two from Ben Sysum and one each from Samuel Cooper, Archie Strange, Codey Boswell, Harvey Williams, and Ghaith Lahmar, gave an indication of what a complete team performance this was. Calne can take credit for never giving up and continued to threaten on the break, and have their keeper to thank for keeping the score down with a series of strong-handed saves.

StrattonYouth U/12s 1-6 Wroughton Youth U/12s Stratton played at home against Wroughton Youth FC, with the away team dominating the first half cruising to victory.

Stratton Youth U/11s The U/11s started their season with the long trip down to Trowbridge. Unfortunately two of the team were sidelined in the morning through illness meaning the team travelled with the bare minimum of 9 players. It was a hot morning and every player worked incredibly hard for each other. After absorbing some early pressure the U/11s took the lead through the lively Shai Robinson who expertly struck home into the top corner after holding off the defender. Luke Dawson then made a number of outstanding saves from long range shots before Trowbridge pulled one back to leave it even at the end of the first quarter. After an unfortunate ricochet the opposition took the lead before Shai was bundled over in the area and struck home the penalty so, again, it was even at the end of the quarter. Ezra Allen, Harley Bennett and Sam Potter were excellent at the back and looked very solid. Idris Thomas-Jones and Louis Kingsbury worked tirelessly in midfield and Jack Cummins and Toby Stallard were a threat on the wings. The third quarter was end to end and the U/11s were unlucky not to score more goals. Harley was then injured in the last quarter which meant the team played with one short for the last 10 minutes. During that period Trowbridge scored two late goals to take the game away from the U/11s. It was a very promising start with the team putting in a lot of effort on a big pitch and they should all be very proud of themselves. Player of the match was Harley Bennett who was a rock in the centre of the pitch and won nearly everything in the area.

Stratton U/11s Blue
The Blues travelled to Malmesbury for their opening game with a number of players playing in their first official match. It was an evenly contested game for most of the time with Fin Marshall creating a chance for Leighton Emson to bundle home from close range. Lewis Boothroyd was full of running in the middle in an excellent display while Harry Maloney was named player of the match for several good saves. It was a promising start to the season with the team getting used to playing with each other, the offside rule and bigger pitch, They tired at the end but should feel very pleased with their attitude and approach in what should be a great experience over the next 9 months for all the team.

Stratton Youth U/10s
The U/10s played their first league match of the season in glorious sunshine at home to Highworth. The game was played in good spirit with some fine attacking football on display. Both teams used the width of the pitch to create space, leading to chances at both ends. However it was Stratton’s pressing game becoming more evident throughout that proved the difference in the end. Their goals came from Woody Whitehead, Xavier Elderby Harris, Tom Pritchett, Liam Smith and Archie Miller, with Xavier taking player of the match for his passing creativity.

Stratton U/10s Blue With a new under 10s team – the Blues – Stratton headed to Calne for our first ever match.FC Calne quickly took a lead after the first quarter, but Stratton really came back into it in the second quarter, with forwards and defence combining to good effect to bring it back level. With some fantastic forward play and some resolute defending, it was really becoming a close run thing. The Blues continued to press, but just couldn’t find that perfect pass or shot. A really fantastic start to the season for our brand-new team, and well done to our goalscorers this week, Luke Richmond, Tom Hoskins and Oscar Mylchreest. Well done to Tom for being awarded player-of-the-match.

Stratton Youth U/9s This is another new team for this season and they played away to Royal Wootton Bassett. In an excellent display, Josh McGlone and Freddie Jones both scored 3 each while Nathanial Paddock chipped in with another and an OG completed the scoring. A great start to the season!

Stratton Youth U/8s
Stratton Youth under 8s started the new season with a tough match against Robins. The game began well for Stratton Youth with with some very good shots which Robins keeper managed to keep out. However a ball across the edge of Robins area by Moses Allen allowed Daniel Price to shoot and the ball ended up in the back of the net. Stratton Youth then extended their lead in quick succession with Lucas Garvey passing the ball to Ollie Saunders who then scored. Ollie Saunders then put a through ball for Sion Ellis-Jones to score. Robins then came back, scoring their first goal and then a second. A shot from Ollie Saunders had the Robins keeper palm the ball away straight to Sion Ellis-Jones to extend Stratton Youths lead. Robins again hit back with 2 quick goals, levelling the score. With 5 mins remaining, Sion Ellis-Jones picked up the ball inside the Robins half and ran on to score and Ollie Saunders then got through on goal to score to give Stratton Youth a hard earned victory. Sion Ellis-Jones received player of the week for his teamwork, assisting in defence and attack and grabbing a hat-trick

Stratton Youth U/7s
Stratton Youth Under 7’s had their first ever game on a real pitch and with their full kit on which meant there was ten very excited players eager to play their best at Baunton Lane on Sunday. The pitch was great, weather was brilliant and the game was played in a great spirit with both teams enjoying much of the ball. There were lots of positives to take out of the game but the main thing was that they all enjoyed themselves and can't wait until next weeks game. Player of the day went to Artie Janvrin.
