Match Report - 28th Oct 2018

Stratton Youth U/16s played the local derby versus Cirencester Town Youth at Strattons Baunton Lane ground. Both teams started brightly, clearly wanting to take the game to the other in a hotly contested match. After 11 minutes a well placed corner from Stratton's Dan Isles found James Wickett to hammer home the first goal. Cirencester Town responded only 3 minutes later from a corner, when Orlando Harding made a stunning bicycle kick from the edge of the six yard box to equalise. The game then settled into a midfield battle, with both teams failing to break down the other until just before half time, when a Stratton defensive mix up gifted Cirencester Town a tap in goal. Half time score 2 – 1 to Cirencester Town. Shortly after the restart Stratton were reduced to ten men by a red card, and from then on it was a struggle for them to stay in the match, despite continuing to battle hard as a team. A further six goals for Cirencester, and a consolation second for Stratton again assisted by Dan Isles who played Lewis Bradley through to make a calm finish past the keeper, made the final score 2 – 8 to Cirencester Town Juniors. Stratton's man of the match is Harry Dyer for another Captains performance in midfield.

Stratton Youth U/12s played only the second league game of the season, and the Stratton players are starting to gain an understanding of how their team mates play. Some excellent attacking moves resulted in two goals for Jonas Smith within the first ten minutes and this was followed up on 25 minutes by a well taken goal from Jonny Reynolds. Early in the second half Harvey Williams finished neatly after good combination play with Nye Thomas-Jones. Débuts were made by 3 players and all played their part in a strong team performance with everyone contributing to an entertaining game.

The U/10s Blue travelled to Swindon to play Stratton Jnrs for the second time in four weeks. The previous fixture had been very one sided in favour of the opposition but this game demonstrated the rapid improvement the team is making. The first quarter was their best of the season and they were incredibly unlucky to go in a goal down after having several goal scoring chances. Jack Cummins, Toby Stallard and Will Wrigley combined well in the middle and were backed up by Bertie Jarvis on the wing. Cory Stewart and Vivan Nembang were solid at the back and contained a very strong attack incredibly well. In the second quarter the Blues were unfortunate with a couple of quality goals from Stratton Jnrs along with two basic errors that gave the quarter a one sided scoreline. Making his debut Michael Bettington-Walker was full of running in midfield while Julian Gurung battled well. Oscar Omerod and Harry Maloney were energetic on the wings and defended with great vigour. In the third quarter the Blues conceded two from corners but had several one on one chances on goal before Toby Stallard grabbed his first goal for the club after a great ball from Jack Cummins set him free. The last quarter was very even but the Blues couldn’t add to their goals tally despite a couple more chances while Julian Gurung made a great clearance on the goal line and Ben Seakins made some very important challenges. It was a really good performance with some great goal kicks from Toby Robinson and fantastic interchanges in midfield and the team should be proud at how well they are doing. Player of the match was Jack Cummins who was constantly constantly battling for the ball and made some very intelligent passes.
